Kokila S Kumar, the youngest councillor of the Kollam Corporation in Kerala, had a tragic death in a road accident in September 2016. The 23-year-old BJP concillor's father Sunil Kumar also died in the mishap.

In the by-election necessitated by Kokila's demise, BJP fielded her mother B Shailaja in her ward. The other day, people of the ward were surprised to see a printed request bearing the name of Kokila being circulated among voters in the run up to the elections.

In the letter, the late corporator pleads everyone to vote for her mother to realise her unfulfilled dreams! "I Kokila S Kumar. Hope you are fine, with the grace of god...,"the letter begins.

"Fate did not allow me to complete the opportunity you gave me to serve you...Even though you bid a tearful farewell to me on Thiruvonam day last year, I realised the truth that I cannot leave you. Every one of you is so dear to me," the letter reads.

Kokila and her father met with the accident when they were returning after attending a function organised by a residents' association in the locality to celebrate Onam, the national festival of Kerala.

The letter concludes with a plea to vote for her mother. “This is my last wish. I won’t come again with my wishes again.”

Voters of Thevalli ward, from where Kokila was elected to the corporation, went to the polling station on Wednesday in the by-election.
