Police to carry guns to prevent rowdy attacks

Synopsis

The unarmed police in the state are often considered to be sitting ducks for rowdies, especially when they are not accompanied by their fellow officers.

Recently at Shivajinagar in Bengaluru, the police chasing an accused in a shootout case were attacked by the goons.

In yet another incident, in which three youths assaulted each other in Hassan, a policeman stood a silent spectator since he had no weapon on hand.

In a bid to prevent exposing law enforcement officials to such risks, Bengaluru Police Commissioner N S Megharikh has directed police personnel to carry service revolvers on their rounds.
