IndiGo office attacked in Kochi after Madani stopped boarding flight

Synopsis

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) activists attacked IndiGo Airlines office at Nedumbassery International Airport, Kochi, after the private airlines objected to taking PDP chairman Abdul Nasser Madani on board citing security reasons.

The IndiGo airlines in which Madani, the accused in Bengaluru bomb blast who got bail to visit his ailing mother, was supposed to board the flight which took off at 1 pm on Monday. But the private airlines insisted that they need special permission from Civil Aviation Department to allow him to fly with his security staff.  It is reported that the airlines raised an objection under the impression that the PDP leader is a prisoner. PDP leaders alleged that their leader was denied permission to board the flight after issuing a boarding pass.

After the news of the denial reached Kochi, dozens of PDP workers who were waiting to receive their leader got angry and attacked the office of Indigo Airlines at the airport. The police intervened creating tension for some time. The PDP workers also laid siege to the office of the airlines for some time.

According to latest reports, Madani is likely to board IndiGo Airlines flight at 7.15 pm. On reaching Kochi, the PDP leader will leave for Anwarseri in Kollam, his hometown.

The Supreme Court had given permission to Madani for visiting his ailing mother for eight days.  A ten-member team of Karnataka police are on the way to Kochi by road and they will be in charge of Madani security during the bail period.
