Following the demise of Fidel Castro, the Kerala government announced that a three-day mourning would be observed in the state as a mark of respect to the Cuban revolutionary, who passed away in Havana. Paying tributes Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan quoted Castro's famous statement "Adieu Comrade Fidel! You will continue to inspire."

The Chief Minister said Castro was a great icon who will be remembered as an inspiration for anti-imperial movements. He had a robust and unparalleled personality, Vijayan said.
Veteran leader V S Achuthanandan said his death was a great loss to humanity at a time when imperialist forces are spreading its roots worldwide. Castro gave energy to human struggles across the world for over half-a-century. He left the world after completing his duties successfully, Achuthanandan said.
Communist Party of India state secretary Kanam Rajendran said Castro played a crucial role in uniting third world countries against the imperialist moves of the US. He was a revolutionary who worked for Cuba's liberation. The Cuban leader has worked closely with India under Non-aligned Movement (NAM), he said.
