Banned notes worth ₹12, 000 crore was deposited with SBT, Thiruvananthapuram It was found that fake notes of face value ₹8.78 lakh was deposited with the bank The officials are planning to file a complaint with the police as they have identified the persons who made the deposit

The mad spree to deposit banned ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes showed the way for even fake currencies to the banks. Fake currency to the face value of ₹8.78 lakh was deposited with the State Bank of Travancore (SBT) Thiruvananthapuram branch. 
 

The officials are planning to file a complaint with the police after it came to their notice that counterfeit currencies were deposited with the branch. On examining the data between November 10 December 28, it was found that of the ₹12, 000 crores scrapped notes that reached the branch post demonetisation, currency worth ₹8.78 lakh was counterfeit notes. 
 

The bank has got details about the persons who made the deposit and said they would lodge a complaint with the police. While accepting notes, bank officials had recorded the serial numbers of the note along with the name and other details of the depositor.
