The CM tries hard to portray himself as ultra-progressive. When taking oath as the CM, he famously declined to be sworn-in in the name of God, and chose Truth over God. He was the driving force behind the Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act.

It is a popular belief in Karnataka that any CM who visits Chamarajanagar District never completes his or her term in the office. To challenge this belief, Siddaramaiah visited Chamarajanagar soon after he became a CM.

“My intention to visit Chamarajanagar is also to break this superstitious belief that this place is a bad omen for any CM who visits here,” he said during his visit to Chamarajanagara.

CM Siddaramaiah has not made any comments either on his new car or the rumours that have been circulating in the media.

However, the CM’s office has its own explanation. According to sources, the CM has been using an old car assigned to him since he was elected as the CM for the past three years.

The car has been damaged and according to the provision, Siddaramaiah can avail for a new car. Another provision in the law allows the minister to buy a new car once the vehicle has completed a distance of one lakh kilometres.

“We had this proposal to purchase a new car since two months, even before the crow incident that occurred on 2nd June. We brought the invoice of Honda and Innova cars also. But CM opted for Fortuner. Besides, CM has been using the old car for about 10 days, even after the crow sat on it. These superstitious allegations are just baseless,” said a source in CM’s office.

The new car is registered by the number KA 01 GA 2016 at Koramangala Road Transport Office (RTO).
