"If I was in her place I would have murdered Bhaskar Shetty," said the teary-eyed mother of Rajeshwari who has been accused of killing the multi-millionaire businessman.

Sumati added, "My daughter is innocent. She must have done this to protect herself from her husband's cruelty. Any woman would have done this if she was put in such situation.” Sumathi alleged that Bhaskar Shetty had an affair with a nurse in Karkala who conceived his child. Also, it was reported that the nurse was taking care of Shetty's business.
Bhaskar Shetty had lost interest and harboured hateful feelings towards his family. He even got their passports blocked.
“Navneeth wanted to join the police department because he was angry with his father. He saw his mother being tortured every day,” said Sumathi defending her grandson.
According to the police, hired assassins from Mumbai were called to Udupi to kill Bhaskar Shetty. The wife and son were assigned to dispose off Bhaskar's body.
