Synopsis

BBMP will introduce eight trucks with dust sweeping and absorbing machines soon This is a Make In India project and easy to maintain, say Palike officers These trucks will do the work in night and collect any dirt and particle up to 5 inches

The Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will commission eight dust sweeping and absorbing machines on the nine main and arterial roads of the city.

According to a report from BBMP project department, the Palike will spend Rs 9.60 crore and purchase eight trucks mounted with dust sweeping and absorbing machines.

Currently, roadside dust is contributing about 40 percent of dirt to the air. The BBMP had pressed for two dust sweeping and absorbing machines on contract basis. "BBMP was shelling out about Rs 2 crore for removing dust from the roadside. But now it will have to only monitor the operations we will introduce eight trucks of our own," said, G Padmavathi, City Mayor.

Lokesh, Executive Engineer, E-Procurement Division, BBMP says the best part about the initiative by BBMP is that it will have to pay only 60 percent of cost at the time of purchase.  The remaining will be cleared in four years. Each year ten percent of the pending amount will be paid and the contractors will only have to operate and maintain the trucks.

A private company, TPS infrastructure Limited has been given the contract to supply these trucks and has asked to ensure it’s maintenance for next five years.

"The purchase will be through E-procurement. The tender condition is such that, there will be no room for corruption," he said and added that, this trucks will cover 60 km a day and will work only during night to clear dust on the commercial, major and arterial roads.

The dust including sand, small iron pieces measuring up to 5 inches will be collected and absorbed by the machine. In a day, it can collect over 250 kilos of dust, which will be sent to the dumping yard and landfills.

"These machines are a Make In India’ product and easy to maintain. Through these machines we can remove the roadside dust particles and prevent air pollution," said, Mahadev Bhat, Zonal Manager, TPS infrastructure Limited.
