Three Karnataka students sing "anti-national" slogans on I-Day

Synopsis

An incident involving few students who were allegedly shouting "anti-national" slogans and singing praises for Pakistan in a college in Tumkur district of Karnataka was reported on Monday.

It has been alleged that students from North India  were shouting slogans at the campus hostel of Siddartha Institute of Technology at Maralur in Tumkur.

It was reported that these students, who were under the influence of alcohol, returned to their rooms and began singing slogans in favour of Pakistan on India's Independence Day.

The on-duty security guards were beaten up when they questioned the students on their conduct.

This incident triggered a political unrest which led to Bhagat Singh Kranthi Sena workers protesting in front of the college campus. A few members of the college claimed that some individuals would try to bury the incident with political influence.

State home minister G Parameshwara, also the chairman of the college, has promised to look into the matter.

“This is shocking! Some students shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans within the college premises. I’ll take necessary action against them,” said state home minister G Parameshwara.

A complaint has been filed against three students who have been arrested by Tilak Park police.

A similar incident was reported at the United Theosophical College in Bengaluru.
