Activists livid as Justice P Vishwanath Shetty becomes Karnataka Lokayukata

Synopsis

SR Hiremath, and social activists termed this selection process of Justice Vishvanath Shetty as Lokayukta as unlawful. The activists said that the fight against the appointment of Shetty as Lokayukta will continue.

On the backdrop of the appointment of Justice P Vishwanath Shetty to the post of Lokayukta, SR Hiremath, a social activist and others had given a memorandum to the Governor to scrap the appointment and yet Shetty made it to the coveted post.

SR Hiremath, the founder of Samaja Parivarthana Samudaya, and social activists termed this selection process of Justice Vishvanath Shetty as Lokayukta as unlawful as he has a number of allegations against him.

"We have already provided, in our earlier representation dated 10.01.2017, some key documents relating to the illegal site in the Judicial Layout that Justice P. Vishwanath Shetty obtained in 2001 even though he was already allotted a site earlier by the BDA in R T Nagar, Bengaluru, where they have built a house. This is against the rules and he should not have been made Lokayukta," said Hiremath.

Sale deed dated 17.08.1995 confirmed the allotment of one more site allotted by the Vijaya Bank Employees’ House Building Co-operative Society (this is the third site allotted by BDA and house building co-operative societies in Bengaluru City) in favour of Justice Shetty and his family.

This time the site is in the name of K. Ravishankar Shetty, S/o Sri P. Vishwanath Shetty, aged about 22 years at the time of the purchase, measuring 50’ X 80’: 4,000 Sq. Ft. in Vijaya Bank Employees’ House Building Co-operative Society, situated at Bilekahalli Village, Begur Hobli, Bengaluru South Taluk, Bengaluru for ₹ 46,000/-.

"We suspect that these properties are benami and hence we did not want Shetty to head Lokayukta," Ravikrishna Reddy, Ravi Krishna Reddy activists and founder, Forum for Building Bribe-free Karnataka.

The activists said that the fight against the appointment of Shetty as Lokayukta will continue.

Reddy added that, Siddaramaiah, who has met Governor Vajubhai Vala to wish Vala on his birthday, was to get the files cleared. "Both government and governors' office have lost morality," said Reddy.
