Fight against coronavirus: Hima Das donates 1-month salary to Assam government

Star sprinter Hima Das has done her bit by contributing her one month's salary to Assam government to combat coronavirus (COVID-19)

Bengaluru: Asian Games gold medallist Hima Das has contributed her one month’s salary to Assam government to fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The star sprinter took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to announce that it is high time to stand together and support people.

“Friends it’s high time to stand together & support people who need us. I am contributing 1 month of my salary to Assam Govt. in Assam Arogya Nidhi Account made to safeguard the health of people in the wake of Covid-19. @narendramodi @sarbanandsonwal @KirenRijiju @himantabiswa,” Hima tweeted on Thursday night (March 26).

Hima works as an HR officer with Indian Oil PSU in Guwahati. She is the latest sportsperson to help in the fight against coronavirus.

Earlier, former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, world champion badminton player PV Sindhu and others had donated to their respective state governments.

Ganguly, who is now the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), donated rice worth Rs 50 lakh in West Bengal. Sindhu donated Rs 5 lakh each to governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Former India cricketers Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan donated face masks in Vadodara. Former India cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shukla donated his three months’ MLA salary, BCCI pension to Bengal. Shukla is currently Bengal sports minister.
