Government mulling introduction of new Rs 200 note

According to various reports, the board of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may soon introduce ₹200 denominated banknotes in the near future.  The board has already cleared the proposal for, the Livemint report claimed that two officials who are privy to the development confirmed the news. 

 

The officials on the condition of anonymity stated the board took this decision at a meeting held in the month of March. The proposal awaits the approval of government officials, once received the printing of these new notes is most likely to start after the month of June.

However, the same report also stated that the spokesperson of RBI denied commenting on the same.  

 

Post the demonetisation announced on November 8, the government introduced ₹2000 denominated bank notes and new ₹500 bank notes. If introduced, ₹200 will be the latest addition to PM Modi government’s plan to rework on the cash mix.
