Demonetisation: Bank guard fires shots to disperse ATM crowds in Punjab

Synopsis

Security guard fires shots to disperse crowd at ATM This occurred at an HDFC branch at Budhlada, Punjab

It’s the same scene everywhere: people lining up to withdraw cash at various ATMs around the country, nearly a month since the demonetisation drive was announced.

Ever since then, there have been reports of scuffles.

According to a Hindustan Times report, a security guard at an HDFC branch in Budhlada, Punjab, fired shots to disperse the unruly crowd.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Gurmeet Singh, said,  “the crowd got so impatient that the glass doors of the bank developed cracks. Out of fear, the guard fired a gunshot in the air to disperse the crowd. No FIR has been lodged as there was no malicious intent behind the firing. There may be three; I will check," he said.
