India's daughter from Hyderabad stuck in Saudi; Sushma Swaraj, the only hope for family

Synopsis

Indian woman from Hyderabad is stuck in Saudi Arabia. She is being tortured and over-burdened by her Saudi employers and therefore wants to come back. External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj is working toward her release.

In another case of exploitation in the hands of employers, a Hyderabadi woman-Zabeena Begum- is said to be stuck in Saudi Arabia and tortured by her employers. The woman was hired by a doctor couple in Saudi Arabia, but they started burdening her with a lot of work and also beat and tortured her.

Zabeena had gone to Saudi Arabia on December 6, 2015, but she sent a voice message immediately after to her brother- Md. Hameed Khan-narrating her ordeal to him. Speaking to DNA, Hameed said, "She is facing a problem and wants to come back to India. They are giving her excess of work that my sister can't do. They are not paying her enough. I request the Government of India to intervene and rescue my sister and bring her back to India."

He further added, "We have written to the External Affairs Ministry."

Meanwhile, social activist Fazil Khan said that he had spoken to Zabeena over the phone and she narrated her ordeal to him. Khan said, "After receiving information from Zabeena's brother, I spoke to her over phone. She has told us of what torture she is facing there. I have tweeted the issue to MEA Sushma Swaraj, who has informed the same to the Ambassador of India to Saudi."

It was, however, later reported that the Embassy spoke to Zabeena Begum's employer and they have assured that they would send her back home after Ramadan. However, contrary to their claims, Zabeena's voice message to her brother reported that her employers had no interest in sending her back home for at least six months because of the Indian Embassy intervention.

Her family now has pinned its hopes on Sushma Swaraj who is known to have resolved many such cases earlier.

Sushma Swaraj, meanwhile, has assured help on her Twitter account.
