Synopsis

The acquisition of CEI adds a free cash flow-positive business to Oklo and strengthens its in-house technical capabilities that support Aurora powerhouse commercialization.

  • Oklo said CEI has generated positive free cash flow for more than five years.
  • Oklo’s Aurora powerhouse is a sodium-cooled fast reactor, hence making CEI’s sodium systems expertise directly relevant to Oklo's planned deployment pathway.
  • Earlier in June, Oklo completed an acquisition of ARMEC, a Tennessee-based precision manufacturing and engineering company.

Shares of Oklo Inc (OKLO) drew premarket investor attention on Tuesday after the company announced it had acquired Creative Engineers Inc (CEI), marking its second acquisition of the year as it continues to build in-house engineering capabilities ahead of the commercial deployment of its Aurora powerhouse.

Oklo said that CEI, an industry expert in chemical process engineering, brings its capabilities in liquid-metal systems, component development, fabrication, manufacturing, and applied research and development to the company’s arsenal of technical expertise.

At the time of writing, OKLO stock was flat on Tuesday.

Why CEI Acquisition Matters For Oklo’s Aurora Powerhouse

The company has taken its development and deployment strategy to the next level by getting specialized technical partners in-house. These advancements have helped the company facilitate critical-path sodium-related work for its Aurora powerhouse deployment, Oklo said.

The addition of CEI to Oklo’s team will help the company move faster on design iterations, improve access to specialized sodium-handling expertise, and reduce execution risk related to equipment, fabrication, testing, and training.

“CEI brings specialized sodium- and alkali-metal engineering capabilities that are directly relevant to Oklo,” said Jacob DeWitte, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Oklo.

Oklo’s Aurora powerhouse is a sodium-cooled fast reactor that uses processes and technologies directly related to CEI's expertise, making CEI’s sodium systems expertise directly relevant to Oklo's planned deployment pathway, the company noted.

CEI, founded in 1996, has a team of 20 engineers, fabricators and welders with experience in sodium and other alkali-metal systems. The company has been working in the field of nuclear sodium programs and experimental breeder reactors.

The acquisition of CEI, which has been generating positive free cash flow for more than five years, will strengthen Oklo’s ability within critical engineering, fabrication, testing and research and development capabilities that support Aurora powerhouse commercialization.

OKLO’s Second Acquisition Signals Vertical Integration Strategy

Earlier in June, Oklo completed an acquisition of ARMEC, a Tennessee-based precision manufacturing and engineering company.

The company said that the deal would enhance Oklo’s in-house capabilities for its advanced reactor and fuel-manufacturing programs and give more control over key elements of Oklo’s deployment timeline.
