Ladies, now you can run in your saris with swag

Synopsis

Imagine running a marathon in your sari without having to swap it for a pair of track pants? Well, that’s how Pinkathon, a marathon dedicated to empowering women to stay fit, is going to revolutionise saris for women across the country.

Milind Soman, a model-turned-actor who is also the face of Pinkathon, is planning to introduce ‘Running Sari’ for women so that they can work out and run marathons in saris. In an interview with The Times of India, Soman said that women usually feel uncomfortable running in shorts and track pants and are surprisingly comfortable working out in traditional attires like saris and burkhas. Their uneasiness prompted him to come up with this one of a kind option.  “Women should be able to say, ‘I want a running Banarasi or Chanderi,’ he said.

According to reports, he has already collaborated with a Delhi-based designer and will be launching these saris by December. “We will make it stylish and fashionable, but have utility with beauty. If anyone wants to begin the journey of getting healthy, usually they buy new shoes which might be a motivating factor in their lives. I want the same thing with the sari,” he told Homegrown.

He also said, “There is myth and misconception among women that their breasts will sag because of running. Forget good sports bras in our country; you don’t find good ones abroad either. We want to work on making good sports bras or research on older traditions if there are any and incorporate them into our designs, anything that enables women to run better."
