Two persons, wearing burkhas, robbed a woman of Rs 55,000 after threatening her with a knife at her home near Trikaripur in Kasaragod.

The robbery took place at 55-year-old K Ayisha's house in Udumbumthala at around 6.30 pm on Saturday when she was alone, according to a report in The Hindu.

The ‘women’ rang the bell and asked Ayisha permission to use the bathroom. The unsuspecting housewife allowed them inside, thinking they might have come to seek 'zakat' as it was Ramadan time.

As soon as they were in, the visitors threatened Ayisha at knifepoint and asked her to bring all the money in the house. The duo left with Rs 55,000, which the family had saved for their son’s marriage.

After the family filed a complaint, the Chandera police have registered a case under IPC sections 392 (robbery) and 451 (trespassing). The police are now examining the CCTV footage from nearby houses in the locality, according to the report.
