Two mobile phones have been seized in an inspection held at the Poojappura Central Jail in Thiruvananthapuram, where three convicts in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case are imprisoned.
In the search held at nine blocks of the prison on Sunday midnight, two smartphones and two sim cards were found from the cells of Annan Sajith, the sixth accused in the TP case and Basith Ali, one of the convicts in Bhaskara Karanavar murder case. A phone charger and a pair of headphones were also seized in the inspection.
Jail superintendent S Santhosh had ordered the inspection following information on the usage of mobile phones inside jail premises. Santhosh will now submit a report to the jail chief R Sreelekha, following which further action will be taken.
The police are also examining whether the phones have been used to call or text someone or to interact with anyone on social media platforms.
TP murder convicts Annan Sajith, Trouser Manoj and Rafeeq are serving their sentence in Poojapura, while co-accused Kodi Suni, Mohammed Shafi and KT Rajesh are at the Viyyur central jail in Thrissur. In 2013, the TP convicts had created another controversy by posting a group photo on Facebook while they were at the Kozhikode district jail.
