In a shocking incident, the police have arrested a woman who runs a creche in Kochi after Asianet News released visuals of her torturing a toddler.

The disturbing video shows Mini, the owner of Kaliveedu day care centre in Palarivattom, repeatedly beating and intimidating an 18-month-old child. It has been alleged that several other children at the centre have also been subjected to similar kinds of physical harassment often.

One of the staff, who helped in exposing the incident, stated that Mini would beat the children and later ask the staff to rub water on the bruises on the children's body so that they are not easily visible to the parents.

The police and the childline conducted inspection at the creche soon after the visuals came out. Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain also visited the place. The police have taken Mini into custody and sealed off the centre.

There were allegations of harsh behaviour by the caretakers at Kaliveedu before as well. Some parents started having suspicions when they noticed bruises on the children’s body, while some others became doubtful when they saw their kids crying as soon as they see the day care every morning. But when the parents confronted Mini regarding the matter, she played down the allegations, saying marks are the results of children falling down while playing.

The creche charges between Rs 1,500 to 3,500 per month and takes care of around 20 children on weekdays.
