The attack happened on Saturday afternoon near the Ramamangalam Kizhumuri Ullalikunnu area. Shantha was walking back after finishing her domestic work at Ullelikunnu. A swarm of wasps suddenly came together and attacked her on the road.

People quickly took Shantha to the Ramamangalam Community Health Centre. The medical staff then shifted her to the Muvattupuzha Taluk Hospital. Later, they moved her to the Kolenchery Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. She died late Saturday night while undergoing treatment.
Her family includes her husband Kumarankutty, and her children Shyam and Shyama. Shyam works as a driver at the Maneed Grama Panchayat. Her daughter-in-law is Neethu and her son-in-law is Arun.
