
A 21-year-old youth who was trying to escape after burying a two-year-old infant after allegedly raping her was caught when the baby cried out! The accused has been identified as Subhash Mahadeva Naikara of Vannur village in Bailhongal taluk, Belagavi district.
It is reported that Naikara had allegedly sexually assaulted the two-year-old infant, who is also from the same village. As the baby fell unconscious, Naikara, feared getting caught and so he decided to bury the baby alive. But as he was doing that the baby began crying out aloud alerting the passersby in the nearby localities. When they rushed to the spot, Naikara fled the scene leaving the wailing baby in a field. However, Naikara was soon apprehended by the police, reports Kannada Prabha.
Meanwhile, the baby whose condition is reported to be critical has been admitted to the hospital here and is being monitored by the doctors.
The victims' parents have been protesting in front of the hospital demanding the police to handover the accused to their custody. "We will decide on the punishment for him," was how the angry parents were heard saying, reports Kannada Prabha. Sensing the tension in the area, the district administration has deployed more police personnel around the hospital.
The Bailhongal police have registered the case and are investigating.
