With elections set for next year, it would seem Karnataka legislators want to make best of their remaining powers, just in case some are voted out of power.

June is a month of transfers in the police department and this year, legislators are "interfering" more than usual to have police officers of their "choice" in their constituencies, with the upcoming elections in mind, sources shared.

Some legislators want to have their preferred police officers in their own constituencies, since they believe this will allow them to fight the elections "without much trouble," the source said.  Besides, this would also help them tackle members of the opposition.

Reportedly, recommendation letters by legislators have reached many police stations. Interestingly, not just legislators, even a few police officers have approached their "god fathers" to seek better placement. A majority of them are eyeing Bengaluru, sources say.

The Police Establishment Board usually conducts transfers, but it seems to have decided to go with the recommendations of the government. The Board is already preparing a list of officers to be transferred, and they include ranks like police sub-inspector, inspector, deputy superintendent of police and IPS officers.

Meanwhile, the Board is expected to meet to take a final call on the list by this month end or the first week of June, reports Kannada Prabha
