Earlier, Karnataka MP B K Hariprasad had demanded to include Tulu and Kodava languages spoken in Karnataka to the 8th schedule of the Constitution. He had said that as the languages are not recognised the governments discriminate against the people speaking these languages, and they do not get any benefits.
In support of the demand, veteran Congress leader Oscar Fernandes spoke about the importance of Tulu and even sang a folk song in Tulu, “O maga Koraga…”

Fernandes also spoke about Yakshagana the traditional theatre form and also demanded that Tulu and Kodava be given a place in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution, which currently has 22 languages in it.
