Virus threat: No surgeries at Bidar govt hospital for a week, patients referred to private hospitals

Synopsis

The 400-bed district hospital in Bidar has stopped conducting surgeries following virus threat. Patients are referred to private hospitals under Tayi Bhagya scheme. One week of cleaning undertaken at district hospital.

Dangerous Virus threat was detected, during inspection, at the three operation theatres in the 400 bed district hospital, attached to Bidar Government Medical College and all surgeries have been put on hold for one week. Patients are referred to private hospitals for emergency surgeries.

The 3 operation theatres in the district hospital were found to contain dangerous Virus Clostridium Tetani, during inspection.  As a precautionary measure all surgeries at the hospital has been stopped since Tuesday evening. Patients are referred to private hospitals like Gurupadappa Superspeciality Hospital, Sidda Reddy Hospital and Sri Vishvasa Hospital. The doctors at the private hospitals will perform surgeries but under the government Tayi Bhagya scheme.

Speaking to Kannada Prabha Dr C S Ragate, district surgeon, said all necessary action has been taken with regard to clearing the virus. Full fledged cleaning is undertaken for a week.

Dr Ragate also said that under a Memorandum of Understanding with the 3 private hospitals surgeries are conducted under the Tayi Bhagya scheme. The patients are not put to any inconvenience, he said.
