The Karnataka government is going all out in promoting Indira Canteens, and as a new step, it is said that tea and coffee will be available in these canteens for just Rs 1.50 each.
However, this facility is limited to the Indira Canteens situated near the bus stop or railway stations, outside Bengaluru. Canteens in Bengaluru city will not provide this service.
Currently, Indira Canteens are providing breakfast at Rs 5 and lunch and dinner at Rs 10 in all canteens including in Bengaluru city.
The government has already given green signal to start Indira Canteens in every district and taluk centres. The officers concerned have been directed to identify suitable places to start Indira Canteens.
The government aims at opening 246 canteens by January 1, 2018.
