The Congress came to power with clear majority securing 122 seats on May 10, 2013.  Siddaramaiah  took the oath as the chief minister three days later. Five days late, on May 18 he inducted 20 Cabinet rank and 8 State rank ministers. Seven months later he included DK Shivakumar and R Roshan Baig to the Cabinet.

For the next one and half years Siddaramaiah Cabinet was functioning without any lapses and on Oct 30, 2015 he inducted KPCC president Dr Parameshwar as the Home Minister.  K J George who was the Home Minister until then was shifted to be the Urban Development Minister.  Later after 10 months,  on June 20, 2016, A reshuffle of a large scale was taken up and 14 ministers were dropped from the Cabinet, including Amabareesh and Srinivas Prasad and 13 new Ministers were inducted. Soon within 3 months Siddaramaiah expanded the Cabinet twice and included Krishnappa and George in a gap of 20 days.

Apart from dropping 14 ministers from the Cabinet and reshuffling, in 3 separate instances 3 ministers were dropped for various reasons. Santosh lad resigned on his own and K J George and H Y Meti had to resign for different scams.

The 3 new ministers who are being sworn in today are Geetha Mahadeva Prasad, H M Revanna and R B Timmapura.
