
Following heavy rains flooding and water logging was reported at over 60 houses in low lying areas in Shahabad, destroying goods worth Rs 3 lakhs stored at the wholesale dealer’s houses.
The culvert in front of the main road opposite to Sarada Cloth shop was not cleared of garbage due to which water logging happened. The residences of Roopa Narayana Baithi, a wholesale grocery dealer, was inundated destroying 70 bags of maida, churumuri, oil and Dalda cartons, incurring a loss of Rs.2.5 to Rs3 lakhs.
The residences of Ramana Oza, Gopal Vyas, Subhash Vyas, Marulasiddaiah Sharma and the village accountant’s office are inundated. The sewage water is also emitting stink.
More than 60 houses in the P Square are flooded. Water as high as 3 to 4 feet is standing. Added to this, snakes, scorpions and other insects are swarming along with the sewage water. The residents have shifted to their relatives and friends’ houses.
Municipal members Arun Kumar Pattanakar, Kashinath Jogi, BJP Mahila Morcha president Jyothi Sharma and Municipal inspector Shivukumar visited the spot.
District BJP Mahila Morcha president Divya Hagaragi expressed grief at the plight of public.
Municipal Council member Arun Kumar Pattanakar has urged the Mayor and the Municipal President to provide relief to the affected.
