State approves policy for the security of LGBT community

The State Cabinet has approved the significant Karnataka Sexual Minorities Policy that helps sexual minorities to become a part of the mainstream. The policy aims at providing equal opportunity to sexual minority by assisting them to get education, health facilities, employment training and shelter. From schools and colleges text books to various departments in the government by recognising them as a category. The State invited various departments to contribute to formulate the policy and with minor corrections and modifications the policy will soon be implemented. 

The State Cabinet has approved the significant Karnataka Sexual Minorities Policy that helps sexual minorities to become a part of the mainstream by assisting them to get education, health facilities, employment training and shelter, reported Kannada Prabha.

The policy aims at providing equal opportunity to sexual minority from schools and colleges text books to various departments in the government by recognising them as a category.  At a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday presided by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah the policy was approved said Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra at a press meet later.

The Supreme Court had issued instructions on April 15, 2016 to all states to form a separate policy for sexual minorities. The State invited various departments to contribute to formulate the policy and it has been readied. With minor corrections and modifications the policy will soon be implemented he said.

The policy includes the third gender like Jogappa, Hizara, woman to man transgender, man to woman transgender, Korti, Jogadasa, Shivashakti, Avarmi and others. The policy aims at treating sexual minorities from a different perspective and avoid discriminating against them, he said.
