For the first time, the Central government came down heavily on the State government in connection with the killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh. Union Law Minister Ravishanakr Prasad asked why the State government did not provide protection to Gauri Lankesh. If, as the state government claimed, she was working towards bringing Naxals into the mainstream, why it failed to protect her? Quoting Gauri’s brother Indrajit Lankesh, Ravishankar Prasad said if Gauri Lankesh was working with the permission of the State government and if yes, why did not the government extend her police protection, reports Kannada Prabha.
He also condemned the comments and criticisms with malice regarding the unfortunate killing that have been flooding the social media. He questioned Rahul Gandhi’s statement accusing BJP and RSS for Gauri Lankesh killing and remarked when a top leader makes such comments, how can the investigation conducted by a committee appointed by the same government function efficiently, he sought to know.
