Former Congress MP Ramya who is almost invisible in the state politics these days - after the party high command entrusted her with the party's social media presence - is reportedly planning to make a come-back as the state will go to polls next year. If rumours are to be believed, Ramya is keen to come back to the State politics and is even an aspirant for a ticket from the KR Nagar constituency.
In fact, there are reasons for why Ramya is keen on contesting from the KR Nagar constituency. First, it was earlier represented by veteran Congress leader AH Vishwanath who is now switched to JD(S). With Vishwanath's exit from Congress, hectic lobbying has begun for the ticket in the constituency. Second, the constituency is Vokkaliga dominated to which Ramya belongs, and she reportedly enjoys the support of Vokkaliga leaders. And lastly, KR Nagar falls under the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, reports The New Indian Express.
Ramya could manage to debut as MP from Mandya (in 2013) - largely due to her charisma as an actor and also due to sympathy wave, following the demise of her father. She was the second Sandalwood star - after former minister MH Ambareesh - to successfully win the elections. Incidentally, both represent Mandya. But after a loss in the general elections in 2014, Ramya may not have it easy this time, feel political experts.
For, she had faced a lot of criticisms for being absent from the constituency for a longer period. Though she took up various causes in the constituency, Ramya was called "opportunistic" by the people of Mandya. Now, that she is completely away from her constituency - with additional responsibilities from the High Command, it is to be seen whether Ramya will emerge as the favourite candidate in the Congress camp for the KR Nagar constituency.
