Ramachandrapura Mutt distributes fodder to 22,000 cows

Synopsis

3100 tonnes of fodder to be distributed at Malemahadeshwara Hill Only dry fodder will be distributed, not green fodder, as the region has received good rains The Ramachandrapura mutt had undertaken a Go Prana Bhikshe Abhiyan to distribute fodder

The Ramachandrapura mutt had undertaken a Go Prana Bhikshe Abhiyan to distribute fodder to the cows at the Mahadeshwara Hill region, since three years. It was implemented without the government subsidy, depending on private voluntary donors.

The Mahadeshwara Hill region which was under severe drought for three years has received good rains this year. Hence the mutt is distributing only dry fodder and stopped green fodder. For three years, the Abhiyan was distributing jowar and sugarcane stems, procured from local farmers to the regions around the hill namely Erambadi, Koudalli Gundapur, Pachche Doddi, Nal Road, Nakkundi, Meenyam, K N Doddi, M T Doddi, Kempayyana Hatti, Pudunagar, Peddana Palya, Chennur, Doredoddi, Haleyur.

Under the Abhiyan, a total of 22,000 cows were fed fodder for 65 days continuously amounting to 320 loads. Daily 19 distribution centres were handing out fodder totalling 3100 tonne. The government had purchased fodder from the Punjab government at Rs 13 per KG. However the mutt had purchased at Rs 3 from surrounding districts for distribution.  The first centre to come up was the Erambadi centre and extended to 19 centres distributing 19 ton green fodder daily. The veterinary clinic at the base of the hill treated 20 sick cows on a daily basis.  Until now around 580 sick cows are treated here.

The Abhiyan was started after repeated appeal to the government by the farmers fell on deaf ears.  The fodder provided by the mutt has kept the cows in good health and if good rains continue for a period, grass will grow and there will not be scarcity of fodder said GP member Govinda.
