Pramod Mutalik booked for his bloodbath speech on Iftar meet in Udupi temple

The High Grounds police have filed an FIR against Pramod Mutalik, chief of Sri Ram Sene, for making provocative speech in the aftermath of Iftar meet hosted by Pejawar seer Sri Vishvesha Tirtha at Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi.

Protesting against the Iftar meet in Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple, Mutalik - in Bengaluru - had strongly condemned the seer's gesture. He had threatened to unleash bloodbath if Iftar meets are organised in Sri Krishna temple in Udupi, in future, reports Kannada Prabha.

Stating that hosting Iftar for Muslim community members at the Krishna temple in Udupi is an insult to the Hindu community. "Such a gesture will send out a wrong message to the Hindu community. This is not right. We will not allow Iftar meet at the Krishna temple or mutt at any cost. We will not hesitate to shed our blood, if we have to," Mutalik had told protesters in Bengaluru. He had also threatened to "purify" the Krishna temple and mutt with cow urine.

The High Grounds police have lodged a case against Mutalik under IPC Section 153 (A) for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony; IPC Section 295 for damage or defilement as an insult to the religion of any class and also IPC Section 505 for making statements with intent to incite or which is likely to incite, any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community.

Meanwhile, BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa has suggested Mutalik not to make statements on Pejawar seer. "Pejawar seer is striving to bring harmony among communities. It would be appropriate if Mutalik stops making irresponsible comments on the seer," Yeddyurappa told mediapersons in Shivamogga, reports Kannada Prabha.

In fact, this is not the first time that Mutalik is being booked for making hate speeches. Till 2009, as many as 13 cases were booked against Mutalik for making provocative speech, especially during the Mangaluru pub attack in 2009. There were rumours that the government was considering to withdraw cases against him. However, then Home Minister, G Parameshwar had denied such rumours. Mutalik  was even banned from entering Goa for his hateful comments, earlier.
