The sugar confiscated from Vasavi Stores in Hassan on June 1, suspected to have plastic content, was tested at the Mysore Divisional Testing Laboratory and the results have confirmed that there were no plastic traces in the sugar and it is edible. Dr Venkatesh, district Health and Family Welfare officer at the Hassan District Food safety and Quality Authority has reported the lab results. He said the lab results show that only sago was mixed in the sugar, reports Kannada Prabha.
The complaint alleging plastic traces in sugar was lodged by consumer Shivakumar. It can be recalled that the Health Minister K R Ramesh Kumar had confirmed at the Assembly Session that 208 samples of sugar, 180 samples of rice, 8 varieties of eggs and 12 samples of Ragi from all over the State were sent for testing at different laboratories in the State and none of the samples had reported any traces of plastic. Hence he had asked the public not to panic.
