People see red over police commissioner revoking traffic ban in Cubbon Park

Synopsis

Public, environmentalists criticised CoP for revoking traffic ban orders in Cubbon Park on second Saturday and public holidays This is a strict violation of Central government rules banning traffic in Cubbon Park City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood has revoked the ban orders to facilitate VIPs movement around Vidhana Soudha.

In a sudden move, the City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood has revoked the traffic ban in Cubbon Park on second Saturdays, and public holidays. He has come under strong criticism for this from environmentalists and public.

The Horticulture Department had issued a ban on vehicular movement in Cubbon Park on Sundays, 3 years ago.  Last year the Department banned traffic ban on Second Saturdays and public holidays also.

In revoking the ban the CoP has issued an order allowing traffic in Cubbon Park on all days except Sundays, to facilitate VIPs commuting to and from VIdhana Soudha.

The Cubbon Walkers Association has strongly protested the move. It’s president S Umesh said vehicular traffic during holidays will affect the visitors to the park and warned that they would hold protest meets if the Commissioner does not reverse his orders.

Environmentalist Yellappa Reddy has said that traffic ban inside Cubbon Park must be implemented on all days. He said the pollution will be harmful inside the park also if vehicles are allowed on all days.
