
The Power Minister D K Shivakumar has said that action has been taken to supply uninterrupted power in the next year. Precaution has been taken to facilitate general public, students and factories without any power cuts, he said, reported Kannada Prabha.
In view of severe drought in the State since 3 years, 10,500 MW power has already been stored. Karnataka can stand alone without relying on any other states as far as power is concerned, he said. A Power Helpline 1912 has been initiated and consumers can call the number for any power related problems and they will be attended to immediately. Advisory Committee has been set up all over the State with 6500 members to attend to consumer complaints.
The appointments at Power Department earlier used to be based on recommendations by MLAs and to family members of chief engineers. But all that has been stopped and now direct recruitment has been established. Corruption has been eradicated.
The Minister said he is ready t accept any challenge with regard to appointments. It is also being discussed to reduce the probationary period of Junior Lineman to 2 years from 3 years, he said.
