New policy in the offing to gag media in the state

Synopsis

It was decided to study the media policies adopted in neighbouring states.   The heads of these departments must collect relevant information to formulate the new policy. A detailed study should be taken up to formulate the new policy hence a sub-committee is formed. 

A joint committee of the legislature has been formed to formulate a new media policy to regulate media. A meeting of the committee was held on Monday chaired by the committee president Minister Ramesh. Members consisted of Congress, JD(S) and BJP leaders --. V S Ugrappa, B R Yavagal, Kimmane Ratnakar, JD(S)’s S R Mahesh, reports Kannada Prabha. Serious discussion with regard to formulating a new policy to regulate media was held.

It was decided to study the media policies adopted in neighbouring states.  Also to study the Central Law regarding media. It was decided to invite the secretary and director, Information Department, secretary, Legal Department, secretary DPAR and other relevant departments. The heads of these departments must collect relevant information to formulate the new policy. Also to look into the Cable Network Law and examine its contents; to check the modifications that can be adopted and the Cable Network Law prevailing in neighbouring states and how effectively they are being implemented should be studied.

After collecting all relevant information a detailed study should be taken up to formulate the new policy. There is a need to form a sub-committee to look into these works, it was opined at the meeting, reports Kannada Prabha.

A joint committee of the legislature was formed with 14 members and headed by Ramesh Kumar. The committee recently inducted V S Ugrappa and Jayamala, Congress members from the legislative council. The committee has already held 3 meetings.
