Synopsis

The ADGP, Prisons, held a marathon meeting of 12 hours with jail officials and took them to task. He warned jail officials to function within the legal parameters and  not to violate the prison manual. He cautioned the officials that they will have to pay heavy price in the event of violations. Providing illegal facilities for bribe is a serious punishable offence he warned.

Warned by the latest scam regarding Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, the Additional Director General of Police, Prisons, N S Megharikh held a marathon meeting of 12 hours with jail officials and took them to task regarding irregularities at the prison, reported Kannada Prabha.

At the Head office of State Prisons Department at Sheshadri Road, Megharikh held a day long meeting of all jail heads in the State and obtained the status of every jail, said a senior official who had participated in the meeting, reported Kannada Prabha. He has warned all jail officials to function within the legal parameters and under no condition the prison manual must be violated. The ADGP has cautioned the officials that they will have to pay heavy price in the event of violations.

The reputation of the State has taken a beating at the national level due to the recent occurrences at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, there is no objection to provide facilities permitted as per judicial order but providing illegal facilities for bribe is a serious punishable offence he warned.

Consider all undertrials and convicts on equal ground, take action against any inmate resorting to rowdyism without any hesitation, transfer anyone creating trouble to another jail, he instructed. The CCTV cameras must be on 24 hours, extreme caution must be taken to prevent any narcotic substance getting inside the jail premises he said and gave instructions to tighten security measures at the jail.  

He asked to give preference to programs to change of attitude and especially skill development workshops. The meeting that started at 10 am was concluded at 9.30 pm.
