Bengaluru shame: 10 more sexual harassment complaint against faculty of Maharani College for women

Synopsis

The new 10 cases will be investigated separately.  A senior IAS officer will be conducting the inquiry and as per the report submitted by the officer action will be taken against the accused faculty members.

Bengaluru’s Maharani Arts and Commerce College for Women is back in the news for all the wrong reasons again. After the recent suspension of a Kannada lecturer Ramalingappa T Beguru over alleged molestation charges by an undergraduate student, ten more students have filed complaints against 6 faculty members for sexual harassment.

The new 10 cases will be investigated separately as individual cases; the New Indian Express quoted a State Department of Collegiate Education official as saying. The Commissioner of State Department of Collegiate Education, Dr Ajay Nagabhushan, confirmed that a senior IAS officer will be conducting the inquiry and as per the report submitted by the officer action will be taken against the accused faculty members.

Meanwhile, head of the expert committee for Preventing Sexual Violence against Women and Children, VS Ugrappa has visited the college and met students as well as the faculty members. As of now, no police complaint has been filed stated Ugrappa.

“Students have accused 15 faculty members of misbehaving with them and trying to spoil the environment of the college. The internal committee has been asked to look into all the allegations and submit the report soon,” the News Indian Express quoted Ugrappa as saying.

Earlier, Kannada lecturer Ramalingappa T Beguru was accused by a student of allegedly kissing her after seeing her in a new dress. After the initial inquiry, he was transferred but two after he was suspended.
