59-year-old Balakrishna Rai got into the Green Line metro at Rajajinagar. He got down at Majestic station to catch another train (purple line) to go to his office at MG Road. But as he got down on the train, another man rushed inside the train ramming Rai.

Indian Express reported that Rai had a severe pain and he fell on the platform and became unconscious. When he regained his consciousness, he saw many people surrounding him, and the Metro staff carried him outside, where an ambulance was ready. He was admitted to the Hosmat Hospital.

The Hospital sources have said, “The patient has suffered major damage in the joint between the hip and thigh bone. The hip ball has to be replaced with surgery to make him walk,” reported Indian Express.

Rai is Accounts Officer with the Defence Department is currently at Hosmat Hospital and will undergo replacement of the damaged hip ball on Monday as he is a diabetic. Rai is also said to have suffered a heart attack recently. The hospital sources say that it will take him at least three months to recover.

Especially after the inauguration of Geern Line, there is a heavy rush at Majestic station in the mornings and evenings. The Metro authorities say that despite their requests and warnings people do not form a queue instead rush in a group to enter the train, not even leaving enough space for the people to get down.

It looks like the accident is more a result of the clumsy and negligent behaviour of the people. However, it is sad that Rai became the victim of an unprecedented accident.
