101 Indira Canteen low-cost have already been inaugurated and are operating in Karnataka from August 16. The Karnataka government has launched the programme which was inaugurated by AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
Just within the matter of three days, there are allegations that food being served there is cooked at the marriage halls, and that rich are getting full stomach food, and the poor are made to return empty handed.
However, as the programme is just started, proper measures should be taken to ensure that the scheme reaches the people whom it is aimed at. Only then, Indira Canteens can be a success story. Currently, breakfast is available at Rs 5 and lunch/dinner at Rs 10.
With the news of Amma canteens in Chennai facing financial difficulty in operating, post-Jayalalithaa's death, we have to wait and see if Indira Canteens will be a success.
Here is the menu of the Indira Canteen.
