4 City markets to get new look under the Smart City project

Under the Smart City project, 4 constituencies will acquire new look Malleswaram, Shivajinagar, Gandhinagar and Chamarajpet to be upgraded at Rs 1,781 crore KR Market and Malleswaram markets to be upgraded to global standards For slum development Rs 43.93 crore are allocated BBMP has identified 24 main roads of 57 km long, for white topping at a budget of Rs 442 crores

Under the Central Government’s Smart City project, Malleswaram, Shivajinagar, Gandhinagar and Chamarajpet Legislative Assembly constituencies will acquire a new look at an estimated budget of Rs 1,781 crore. The BBMP has drawn plans to convert all these four Assembly constituencies into Smart in the next five years. The plans include preserving historical monuments and providing basic amenities. The estimates are also prepared and will be placed before the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), to be jointly formed by Central and State governments, reports Kannada Prabha.

The plans include total development including walking and cycle paths at Halasuru and Sankey talks; KR Market and Malleswaram markets to be upgraded to global standards. Shivajinagar and Majestic areas will also be developed.

Under the Smart City project Rs 32.4 crore is allocated for safety projects, Rs 12.1 crore for health projects, Rs 1.7 crore for administration projects, Rs 2 crore for revenue generating schemes and Rs 61 crore for various other projects. The project wise allocation is Rs 1,166 crore for restoring maintaining historical monuments. For developing Shivajinagar and Majestic Rs 234.13 crore will be earmarked. For developing Malleswaram market, Rs 185 crore will be allocated. For developing Halasuru and Sankey tank, Rs 185 crore will be kept aside and to develop Cubbon Park, Rs 6.7 crore will be allocated. Also, Rs 43.93 crore will be allocated for slum development.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to maintain the roads in good condition, the State government has approved white topping of important roads. The BBMP has identified 24 main roads of 57 km long, for white topping at a total budget of Rs 442 crore. The white topping will increase the durability and quality of the roads. Already, Nrupatunga Road, Kasturba Road and Dhanvantari Road have been converted into white topped roads. Now in the second phase, 24 roads will be white topped.
