Although Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stressed on the need to do away with VIP culture, officials find it hard to give away the privilege. In a vulgar display of power Krishnoji Rao, superintendent engineer of Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd (KNNL), on Tuesday made his car driver, a government employee, lift his shoes and carry them around.

The officer was at Kanakumbi in Khanapur taluk for the inspection of Kalasa nala. Several puddles had formed on the muddy road owing to incessant rain in the region. The engineer removed his shoes and started walking barefoot. He asked the car driver to carry them and follow him.

The Times of India have reported that the incident has invited the wrath of the association of government car drivers.

Sanjay Talwar of the Belagavi District Government Car Drivers' Association condemned the officer's behaviour and said the incident was shocking.
