Karnataka man, Pakistani wife, how will this story end?

Synopsis

Hubli resident Daniel Henry Devanur married Pakistani citizen Silvia Noreen a year back at the Pentecostal church of Lahore. The couple is facing diplomatic trouble and till now he has not been able to get the sponsorship certificate for Silvia.

They say love known no bounds and this is true for Hubballi resident Daniel Henry Devanur, who married Pakistani citizen Silvia Noreen a year back at the Pentecostal church of Lahore. However, in this love story getting married seem to be the easier part as the couple is now fighting hard to be together.

Daniel has knocked on multiple doors in past one year and is still trying his level best to bring his legally wedded wife to India. The couple is facing diplomatic trouble and till now he has not been able to get the sponsorship certificate for Silvia. All he needs for the certificate is a signature of a gazetted officer.

After a year of making endless efforts, he recently tweeted to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for help.

Daniel recalls that meeting Silvia in 2014 and falling in love instantly, then the couple got married in June last year. In fact, Silvia happens to be his distant relative from his mother’s side. His mother had roots in West Bengal and lived in Lahore during pre-independence.

They got married in the church and got it registered in a court in Pakistan. He then returned to India and started the official process to bring his bride to India. In one year, he visited multiple gazetted officers including MP Prahalad Joshi to get a sign for the sponsorship certificate. But, everyone denied saying that they will need to consult their superior, reported The News Minute.

Helpless, he has finally brought the issue to the notice of Sushma Swaraj through tweets.

Meanwhile, MP Joshi said that he has talked to Daniel and also sent a letter to foreign minister seeking help for him. The MP also said that when Daniel approached the gazetted officers for the signature he did not notify the Indian embassy about the marriage. The embassy needs to verify the fact before further process.

Below are a couple of tweets highlighting his struggle:
