Majority of the Kannadigas do not know to sing the national anthem! Yes, that's what Goa Shiv Sena president Shiv Prasad Joshi thinks about Kannadigas. He has also reportedly said that "Majority of the Kannadigas are not aware of the leaders who sacrificed their lives for the country. They are not patriots like Goans."
The rude remark against Kannadigas by Joshi has come under severe criticism. Condemning Joshi's remarks, Goa Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthanakar said it is completely unfortunate and condemnable. He did not stop there. Referring to the incomplete printing of national anthem in Marathi subject textbooks of class II in Goa, Kawthankar wondered, "Where was Shiv Sena when thousands of 'Gomant Bharti' texbooks had incomplete national anthem? Is their nationalism selective?"
Kawthankar also criticised Joshi's statements that Shiv Sena president Pramod Mutalik was the "protector" of women's rights. "Their praising of Shiv Sena shows their mindset, though it's not surprising. Moreover, the moral policing hypocrites should introspect first," Kawthankar told PTI.
