Jantakal Case: SIT wants to arrest HD Kumaraswamy, but HC gives his relief till June 28

The Karnataka High Court has directed the Special Investigation Team, probing illegal mining scam, not to arrest former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy till June 28, the day of next hearing. It also has put a condition to HDK to appear before the SIT in the event of the team summoning him for questioning.

Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy had submitted for anticipatory bail with regard to arrest threat in the case of Jantakal mining scam.   The case had come up for hearing in front of the Single Judge Bench comprising justice Ratnakala. Arguing on behalf of SIT, special appointed advocate P Govindan appealed that it was essential to arrest H D Kumaraswamy as the third accused for misusing the office of the chief minister to bring pressure on and influence the officers to pass orders with regard to Jantakal mining.  He said diaries and other documents in support of the necessity to arrest HDK would be submitted to the court.  The court can then take a decision with regard to either granting him anticipatory bail or arrest warrant said P Govindan.

It can be recalled that a case was registered against former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, after he was named by IAS officer Ganga Ram Baderiya as one of the persons who pressurised and influenced to release documents issuing mining licence in favour of Jantakal Enterprises, owned by Vinod Goel, mining baron.
