Jail scam: Retired officer to probe into allegations from today?

A retired officer appointed to look into the serious allegations of bribery among others at the Central prisons in Parappana Agrahara is expected to begin investigations from Monday (July 17).  After DIG prisons D Roopa made serious allegations of irregularities in the central prisons that have created quite a sensation, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appointed retired bureaucrat Vinay Kumar to look into the allegations. Retired bureaucrat Vinay is expected to arrive in the City on Monday (July 17).

Highly placed sources told Kannada Prabha that Vinay Kumar is expected to first meet DG&IG RK Dutta and discuss the whole issue. Later, he will meet DGP Satyaranayna Rao and DIG Roopa, separately, and gather information surrounding the whole controversy, reports Kannada Prabha.

It may be recalled here that DIG Roopa had alleged of bribery against her senior officer DGP Satyanarayana Rao. In her report submitted to DGP Rao, she had stated that there were allegations of DGP Rao allegedly receiving Rs 2 crore bribe to extend special privileges to AIADMK leader Sasikala Natarajan and stamp paper kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi who are housed in Parappana Agrahara jail.

DGP Satyanarayana Rao has denied these allegations and has threatened to initiate legal action against his subordinate DIG Roopa. Also, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to issue a notice to her for going public with her allegations. Roopa has so far submitted two reports of alleged irregularities in the prisons and the retired officer is expected to probe these charges.
