The Malleswaram police station inspector Venkatachalaiah has been suspended for refusing to register a complaint under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act  following an order issued by the West Additional Police Commissioner Malini Krishnamurthy on Thursday. Syed Alim (23), a resident of Channapattana, has been arrested and a case has been registered under the POCSO Act against him for allegedly attempting to sexually harass a 16-year-old boy.

Syed had come to the victim’s house for repairing an air conditioner. At that time, the 16-year-old boy and his mother were at home. Alim asked for water to repair the AC and when the boy went to the bathroom to fetch water, Alim also followed him into the bathroom and tried to sexually molest him. The boy managed to escape and complained to his mother.

When the mother called up the AC company to complain, the accused pleaded with her against doing it. The parents later went to the Malleswaram police station to lodge a complaint. But inspector Venkatachalaiah reportedly refused to register the complaint, reports Kannada Prabha. Upset over this, the parents lodged a complaint against the inspector with the senior officials. As a result, Venkatachalaiah has been suspended for dereliction of duty.
