'Have incriminating details on IAS officer Anurag Tewari's death'

Synopsis

Vijaykumar claims to have received an e-mail The mail has details of corruption that Anurag Tewari was about to expose CBI is expected to arrive in Bengaluru to investigate the death of the young IAS officer

Former Karnataka bureaucrat MN Vijay Kumar claims to have details about the alleged scam in Food and Civil Supplies Department which was being unearthed by IAS officer Anurag Tewari, who was found dead in Lucknow.  Tewari's family members suspect that the alleged expose could have led to his death.

Vijay Kumar has reportedly received an e-mail on May 25 by an unknown sender. The mail - claimed Vijay Kumar - has details about the alleged e-scam that Tewari was investigating. However, Vijay Kumar said he would not disclose the details to anyone but only with the CBI officers, who are expected to arrive in the state to investigate Tewari's death, reports Suvarna.

It may be recalled here that Vijay Kumar - considered an honest officer - had alleged about the IAS mafia in the state that prevents honest, junior officers from exposing any corruption in the department. He had suspected that Tewari could have become the victim of this alleged mafia.

It was reported that Tewari was investigating various scams in his department worth Rs 450 crore involving five KAS and one IAS officer. A letter in this regard has been written to Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary. "Now, the e-mail strengthens the fact that there was a major scam in the department and Anurag was after it," Vijay Kumar told media persons.

Tewari had two mobile phones, and they could have provided enough evidence. But the police have destroyed data from one phone, and the other phone which has been handed over to his parents has not been unlocked, he alleged.

The investigating officials have enquired Tewari's car driver in Bidar on charges that Tewari was facing threats to his life. But this did not yield anything, it is reported. Another woman officer of the same district who had earlier claimed that Tewari had a threat to his life has not yet been enquired. This has raised a lot of suspicions, he observed.

Meanwhile, the UP government has suspended three police personnel who reached the spot late and delayed the whole process of investigation into the mysterious death of Anurag Tewari.
