Malleswaram bomb blast victim, Leesha NS has filed a case of contempt against the government for failing to give her a job despite the High Court order. For the 21-year-old bomb blast victim, going through insult from the government officials and hospitals which agreed to do surgeries on her leg is more painful than the actual blast.
Speaking to Asianet Newsable, Leesha said, the government official at the CM's office insulted her father when he furnished a court order. Based on the order on October 17, 2016, Leesha should have been given a job based on her qualification. She has completed Bachelor of Computer Application, and now she is pursuing her masters.
On April 17, 2013, a blast near BJP head office in Malleshwaram injured 18 persons and Leesha, a resident of Nandini Layout, suffered more serious injuries on her right leg. Initially, she was treated at KC General Hospital, but later she was shifted to MS Ramaiah Hospital which performed complex surgeries to fix her leg.
The impact was so severe that the bones of the left leg were broken into pieces resulting in a large wound on her leg. An aspiring Bharatanatyam dancer, she has undergone nine surgeries so far, and there is no sign of her recovery. As she had to run around with her injured leg to hospital and government offices for compensation and surgeries, she filed a petition before the High Court to intervene for justice from the delay in compensation.
" It's been more than eight months, and the government has failed to follow the court order. Hence it is a contempt of court case. We waited for months and since nothing happened we have to move a contempt case on the government," said, Leesha and added, when her father approached the government authorities who are supposed to follow the court order and give her job, they insulted her father and asked him to go away."If we give you compensation and a job, thousands of such people will come and demand the same from the government. Whenever we get an update on any job and compensation we will inform you, don't come and waste our time," Leesha said , quoting the official.
"Leesha has lost 50 per cent of her ankle movement post the blast. Following the incident, my family had to go through financial losses, and now my daughter's career is at stake. The doctors have given a certificate saying her disability is about 70 per cent. Based on the same evidence we filed a petition before HC asking for compensation of Rs 1 crore and a government job under disability quota. And the honourable court first asked the state government to give a job," said Doreswamy, Leesha's father. He further added that he had to pawn his wife's jewels, borrow money from private money lenders for her operation and treatment.
Over Rs 15 lakhs was spent at one private hospital which had operated on her for six times. Still, nothing happened. When he questioned the treatment process and the shoddy job done by the hospital, he was chased away. Later he admitted her to another private hospital and got her ninth surgery done. The doctors here had told the victim and the family that her chance of recovery is remote as the previous hospital has messed up. “The private hospital that charged Rs 15 lakh for six operations was only experimenting with my daughter's leg. Leesha's situation was utilised only for publicity, but the hospital failed to do a good job," said Doreswamy.
