A massive national-level resistance meeting will be held to condemn the killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh at Central College grounds on September 12. Around 50,000 people are expected to participate in the meet aimed at countering the efforts of fundamentalists to kill democracy, said progressive writers, reports Kannada Prabha.

Author and scholar Dr K Marulasiddappa said Gauri has been killed with an intention of silencing the voice of dissent. Gauri’s father P Lankesh was even harsher and his writings were always anti-establishment. But he was not killed for being outspoken. Communalism has reached its heights to the extent of killing anyone who does not share their ideology. Some dirty minds are calling us traitors, some say go to Pakisthan, they are celebrating in social media and Prime Minister Modi is following such dirty minds on social media, he said.

Writer Prof Chandrashekhar Patil said the democratic values and freedom for which Gauri fought for all her life have actually taken her life. "We are preparing an action plan to decide our next course of action on our efforts to safe guard democracy," he said.

Briefing the mediapersons, activist K Neela said that the rally will start from City railway station to reach Central College grounds. Prominent personalities like GN Ganesh Devi, CPI leader Seetharam Yerachuri, journalist P Sainath, social activists Medha Patkar, Anand Patavardhan, Teestha Setlawad, Yogendra Yadav, Jignesh Mevani, Rakesh Sharma and others will be participating in the meet.

Actor Chethan, Secretary of Komu Souhardha Vedike KL Ashok and Mavalli Shankar were present.
